About EthnioQuiz
The free nationality guessing game that turns cultural curiosity into a thrilling challenge.
What is EthnioQuiz?
EthnioQuiz is a free, browser-based guessing game that puts your cultural awareness to the test. Each round presents you with a real photograph of a person, and your task is simple: decide which of two countries that person comes from. It sounds easy until you actually try it. The game draws on a library of more than 1,200 portrait photographs spanning 19 different countries, ensuring every session feels fresh and unpredictable.
What sets EthnioQuiz apart from ordinary trivia games is its focus on visual perception and cultural literacy. Instead of memorising capital cities or historical dates, you rely on subtle cues, intuition, and genuine familiarity with how people look around the world. Every correct answer rewards you with points, and consecutive right guesses build a streak that earns bonus time, keeping the pressure on as the clock ticks down.
Whether you are a seasoned traveller who has spent years crossing borders, a geography enthusiast, or simply someone looking for a quick and engaging way to pass the time, EthnioQuiz offers something for everyone. The game is entirely free, requires no download or account, and runs smoothly on phones, tablets, and desktop browsers alike. Jump in, make your best guess, and see how you stack up on the global leaderboard.
How to Play
- A portrait photograph appears on your screen. Take a moment to study the face, hair, clothing, and any other details you notice.
- Two country options are displayed beneath the photo. Tap or click the one you believe matches the person's nationality.
- Score points for every correct answer. The faster you respond, the more impressive your final tally will be.
- Build streaks by answering several questions correctly in a row. Each streak milestone adds precious bonus seconds to your timer, giving you more time to keep playing.
- When the round ends, your score is submitted to the global leaderboard. Compete with players from around the world and climb the rankings.

Fun Facts from Around the World
Every matchup in EthnioQuiz is rooted in real geography and culture. Here are some fascinating tidbits about the countries featured in the game.
Japan has more than 6,800 islands, yet roughly 73 percent of the country is mountainous. The Japanese archipelago stretches over 3,000 kilometres from north to south, which means climates range from subarctic snowfall in Hokkaido to subtropical beaches in Okinawa.
India is home to 22 officially recognised languages and hundreds more regional dialects. The country's linguistic diversity is so vast that neighbouring states sometimes need translators to communicate, making it one of the most multilingual nations on Earth.
Argentina has the widest avenue in the world: Avenida 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires spans up to 140 metres across. The country is also the birthplace of tango, a dance form that UNESCO recognises as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Turkey straddles two continents, with roughly three percent of its territory lying in Europe and the rest in Asia. Istanbul, the country's largest city, is the only major city in the world that sits on two continents, split by the Bosphorus strait.
Sweden is a global leader in sustainability and innovation. The country recycles so efficiently that it has actually imported waste from other nations to fuel its waste-to-energy plants. Swedes also enjoy a cultural ritual called fika, a daily coffee-and-pastry break that is practically sacred.
Colombia is the second most biodiverse country on the planet, hosting nearly 10 percent of the world's species within its borders. From the Amazon rainforest to the Andes peaks and Caribbean coastline, the country's ecological variety is staggering.
Greece is considered the cradle of Western civilisation, having given the world democracy, the Olympic Games, and foundational works of philosophy, theatre, and mathematics. The country includes around 6,000 islands, of which only about 227 are inhabited.
Ireland is often called the Emerald Isle for its lush green landscapes, shaped by frequent rainfall and a mild Atlantic climate. The country has a rich literary tradition and has produced four Nobel Prize winners in literature, an extraordinary achievement for a nation of fewer than five million people.
